South Simcoe Theatre Celebrates 40th Anniversary

Our 2005/2006 season marks the 40th anniversary of South Simcoe Theatre. This is a momentous occasion and we have many reasons to celebrate and honour the many people who established the original idea and kept it growing all these years. SST continually offers amazing productions thanks to an enthusiastic talent base.

We are currently in the planning stage of what the celebrations will entail. Our intent is to make this an unforgettable affair and we invite each and every one of you to join us in toasting the past, present and future of this theatre that we have grown to love.

Memories on Film
On Oct. 12, 2004 we gathered eight of our founding members together to share, on camera, their memories of the theatre. Dinah Christie graciously offered to act as videographer, capturing the reminiscences of Joan Megraw, Jim and Ethyl Johnstone, Barbara Greaves, Tony Gilsenan, Ken Inkster and Giulio and Margaret Kukurugya. Watch for this historic video to be released for viewing in the New Year.

Theatre Archive
Steve Little has begun archiving the many documents, photographs, posters and news clippings that record the evolution of the theatre. However, many important items have been lost over the years.

We are asking that anyone who has any memorabilia about the theatre, the productions and the town hall itself to please donate them to the archive. While originals would be preferred, copies would also be appreciated.

Steve Little would also welcome hearing from anyone with experience (or who wishes to learn) about archiving. This is a huge undertaking. You can contact Steve at little@look.ca

Alumni
We are attempting to contact as many people as possible that have been involved with SST over the years, on stage or behind the scenes. Everyone who has had a part in making the theatre what it is today. We also urge anyone with information about former participants who have passed away to contact the theatre.

The Celebration
Of course, our plan is to celebrate our coming anniversary in our usual classy and festive manner. Anyone who would like to participate in the planning of our 40th anniversary celebrations is encouraged to contact the theatre at 458-4432
